আবহাওয়া নিয়ে
কথা বলতে হলে

সামাজিক কথাবার্তার মধ্যে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা নেয় আবহাওয়া নিয়ে আলোচনা। এই ধরনের কথোপকথনের
ক্ষেত্রে জানতে হয় বিশেষ কিছু শব্দ। বিভিন্ন অনুশীলনী ও দৃষ্টান্তের সাহায্যে বিষয়টি আলোচনা করা হল। |
নীচের কথোপকথনটি মন দিয়ে পড়ো:
X: Yes,we had a fantastic time.
Y: Great!
X: We stayed with my sister in London for a few days and then we went to attend a wedding.
Y: How was it?
X: It was all wonderful and the weather was fantastic the whole time.
Y: Was it hot?
X: No, not really. It was lovely and warm with clear skies all the time. Couldn’t have expected better.
Y: Sounds fantastic.
X: Yes. But there was a problem with the hotel. The facilities for the wedding and the reception had been double booked. So it was almost a disaster, but one of their friends offered them their house in Silver Springs.
Y: But I thought that originally they were going to have the wedding in London.
X: That’s right. The hotel they had booked was in London. But the hotel made a complete mess of the booking and finally they had the wedding and the reception in this luxury home in Silver Springs,which was fantastic; so it worked out really well in the end.
Y: Oh, I see. Well, it sounds as if you had a great time.
X: Yes, really and I feel so much more relaxed than before. কয়েকটি প্রশ্ন দিলাম।
How was the weather during the trip?
What was the problem with the hotel?
Where did the wedding finally take place?
তোমাদের কাজ হল উপরের কথোপকথনের মধ্যে থেকে প্রশ্নগুলির উত্তর খুঁজে বের করে লিখে ফেলা।
এ বার আগের কথোপকথনটি অনুসরণ করে তোমাদের আরও কয়েকটি কথোপকথন তৈরি করতে হবে। বিষয়গুলি দিয়ে দেওয়া হল
১) তোমার কোনও বন্ধু কোথাও ছুটি কাটাতে গিয়েছিল। সেই নিয়ে কথা হচ্ছে।
২) নতুন কারও সঙ্গে তোমার পরিচয় হয়েছে। সে যেখানে থাকে সে জায়গাটি নিয়ে দুজনে কথাবার্তা বলছ।
৩) তোমার পরিচিত কেউ হঠাৎ তার বন্ধুর কাছে গিয়ে চমকে দিতে চায়। সেই নিয়ে তোমার সঙ্গে কথোপকথন করছে।
তুমি যখন অন্যের কথা শুনছ তখন কয়েকটি বিষয় মাথায় রাখতে পারো। যেমন,
ক) দেখাও যে তুমি শুনছ তুমি যে অপর ব্যক্তির কথায় কান দিচ্ছ তাকে সেটা বোঝাও। সেই সূত্রে কী বলবে তার কয়েকটি উদাহরণ দিই। যেমন,
I'm paying attention, Thats great, Im glad to hear it, Sounds fantastic!
খ) তুমি বিষয়টা কতটা বুঝছ সেটা বিচার করো প্রশ্ন করো এবং দেখে নাও ব্যাপারটা বুঝেছ কি না। যেমন,
Where exactly did you go?
But I thought that originally they were going to have the wedding in London!
৩) কথার ধারা নিয়ন্ত্রণ করো কথোপকথনের ধারা নিজের মতো করে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে কথার পিঠে প্রশ্ন করো, প্রয়োজনে সংক্ষেপে বিষয়টি আলোচনা করো। এই ধরনের কথাবার্তার ক্ষেত্রে তোমাকে সক্রিয় ভূমিকা নিতে হবে। তুমি কৌতূহল না দেখালে কথাপকথন বেশি দূর এগোবে না। যেমন তুমি বললে, Lucky you! how was it?; Well, it sounds as if you had a great time. |

ইংরেজি ভাষায় প্রথম সত্যিকারের বড় মাপের অভিধানটির রচয়িতা স্যামুয়েল জনসন (১৭০৯-’৮৪) বলেছিলেন: যখন দু’জন ইংরেজের দেখা হয়, তাঁরা প্রথমেই আবহাওয়া নিয়ে কথা বলেন। তা হলে, একটু আঁচ নিশ্চয়ই করতে পেরেছ। এ বার আমাদের বিষয়: ‘আবহাওয়া’। বিষয়টা যখন ধরেই ফেলেছ তখন তোমাদের কয়েকটি আবহাওয়া সংক্রান্ত শব্দ দিই। শব্দগুলি হল Drizzle, freezing, boiling, heavy showers, chilly, bright, thunderstorm, sleet, mild, ice, hot, warm, cool, snow, dull, clear, sunny, hail, hazy, cloudy, frost, light showers. তোমাদের এই শব্দগুলিকে চারটি বিভাগে ভাগ করতে হবে। বিভাগগুলি কী কী সেগুলি দিয়ে দেওয়া হল
ক) under rain,
খ) winter weather,
গ) temperature এবং
ঘ) light।
তোমরা নিজেরাও চাইলে কিছু নতুন শব্দ এই বিভাগগুলিতে যোগ করতে পারো। আরও একটা বিষয় এই ক্ষেত্রে তোমাদের খেয়াল করতে হবে। এদের মধ্যে দুটি বিভাগে শুধু বিশেষ্য বা বিশেষ্যের বাক্যাংশ রয়েছে এবং বাকি দুটি বিভাগে রয়েছে বিশেষণ। কোন কোন দুটি? আর তাপমাত্রার ক্ষেত্রে শব্দগুলিকে ভীষণ গরম থেকে ভীষণ ঠাণ্ডা, এমন ভাবে সাজাবে। একটা নতুন অনুশীলনী দিচ্ছি। দুটো ভাগে আটটা করে শব্দ দেওয়া হল। তোমাদের একটি ভাগের শব্দের সঙ্গে অন্য ভাগটি এমন ভাবে মেলাতে হবে যাতে দুটির যোগে আবহাওয়া সংক্রান্ত শব্দ তৈরি করা যায়। |

যেমন, ১) weather-এর সঙ্গে h) forecast কথাটি উপযুক্ত। অর্থাৎ কথাটি দাঁড়াল weather forecast. এই ভাবেই অন্যগুলো তোমরা করে ফেল। এ বার আবহাওয়ার খবর আকারে বেশ কয়েকটি অসম্পূর্ণ বাক্য দিলাম। ওপরের অনুশীলনীতে তোমরা আবহাওয়া সংক্রান্ত যে শব্দ তৈরি করলে, সেগুলির মধ্যে থেকে ঠিক শব্দ বসিয়ে এই বাক্যগুলি পূর্ণ করতে হবে। বাক্যগুলি হল
ক) The ………… for this morning is generally good although there could be some rain later during the day.
খ) In the east, there will be some exceptionally ………… and it will be very cold.
গ) In the north, there will be ………… right through the day and it will be much wetter than usual for the time of year.
ঘ) In the south, temperatures will be higher than average and we can expect ………… for most of the day.
ঙ) In the west, there will be …………… in the morning and it will be quite warm but it will start to cloud over in the afternoon.
চ) In the central highlands, there will be …………… this morning so drivers should take special care because visibility will be limited.
ছ) In the afternoon, there will be …………… blowing across the hills so drivers should continue to take special care.
জ) Some of these could reach ……………. So, again, please drive carefully if you're out in your car tonight.
একটা উদাহরণ দিই। এখানে ক) বাক্যের শূন্যস্থানে weather forecast ব্যবহার করা যায়। তা হলে বাক্যটা দাঁড়াবে The weather forecast for this morning is generally good although there could be some rain later during the day.
বিদেশ থেকে কোনও ব্যক্তি তোমাদের দেশে আসছেন। তুমি তাঁকে এখানকার সারা বছরের আবহাওয়া সম্পর্কে জানাচ্ছ। আগের অনুশীলনীতে যে ভাবে আবহাওয়া সংক্রান্ত খবর দেওয়া হয়েছে ঠিক সেই ভাবেই তুমি সেই ব্যক্তির জন্য একটা লেখা তৈরি করো। তোমার বক্তব্যের মধ্যে যে যে বিষয়ে খোঁজখবর থাকা উচিত
১) বর্তমানে আবহাওয়া কেমন?
২) সারা বছর কেমন আবহাওয়া থাকে, কতগুলো ঋতু আছে?
৩) সকাল ও রাত্রের তাপমাত্রার মধ্যে তারতম্য কত।
৪) বিভিন্ন সময়ে বিভিন্ন জায়গায় কী ধরনের জামা কাপড় পরতে হয়?
৫) বিভিন্ন স্থানের আবহাওয়া কেমন।
তুমি নিজের মতো কিছু বিষয়ও এই বিবরণে যোগ করতে পারো। |
