বহু কথোপকথনের মুখ্য বিষয় দাঁড়ায়, খাবার। রান্নার পদ্ধতি, খাবারের নাম,
আরও কত কী। এই ধরনের কথাবার্তার ক্ষেত্রে যথার্থ শব্দ বা শব্দগুচ্ছ জেনে নেওয়া জরুরি।
নানা অনুশীলনীর সাহায্যে তারই কিছু দৃষ্টান্ত এ বার। |
ভাল খাবার খেতে আমরা সবাই পছন্দ করি। দেখতে গেলে, একটু আধটু ভোজনরসিক আমরা সকলেই। এ বার, তোমাদের ক’টা দেশের নাম বলছি। জাপান, জার্মানি, ফ্রান্স, মেক্সিকো, ইংল্যান্ড, চিন, ভারত এবং ইতালি। এই প্রত্যেকটি দেশের কোনও একটা বিশেষ খাবারের কথা বলতে পারবে? তুমি কোন বিদেশি খাবার খেতে পছন্দ করো?
শুরুটা দেখেই আশা করি বুঝতে পেরেছ যে এ বারে আমাদের বিষয়: খাবার। বলে রাখি, এই সংখ্যায় আমরা যেমন বিশেষ কিছু স্থানীয় খাবার নিয়ে কথা বলব, তেমনই আবার শিখে নেব রেস্তোরাঁয় খেতে গিয়ে কী ধরনের শব্দগুচ্ছ ব্যবহার করতে হয়। এ ছাড়াও জানব এমন কিছু শব্দ যেগুলি খাবার বা রান্নার ক্ষেত্রে হামেশাই ব্যবহার করা হয়।
শুরু করব কয়েকটি অনুশীলন দিয়ে। অনুশীলনে তোমাদের কতকগুলি অসমাপ্ত কথোপকথন দেওয়া হল। কথোপকথনের বিষয়গুলি সবই খাবার সংক্রান্ত। আর এই অসমাপ্ত বাক্যগুলি পূর্ণ করার জন্য সঙ্গে রইল দশটি শব্দগুচ্ছ। শব্দগুচ্ছগুলি হল: a) We call it; b) The most important thing is; c) How is it cooked; d) Everything tastes very fresh; e) I make it with; f) I’d love to know the recipe; g) Where do you get them; h) What exactly is; i) What’s it called. |

প্রথম বাক্যটার ঠিক উত্তর কী হবে জানো? sour। বাক্যটা তা হলে কী দাঁড়াল? There was too much lemon in it - it tasted really sour।
জাপানি সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে A এক জন বিশেষজ্ঞ। তিনি খাবার সম্পর্কে কোনও একটি ইন্টারভিউ দিচ্ছেন। সেখানে জাপানিদের খাবারের কথাও উঠেছে। নীচে কথোপকথনটা দেওয়া হল
Interviewer A: Why do you think food is so important?
B. I think food is incredibly important in every culture. Very often when Japanese people travel abroad, the very first thing that they think about is the food. Because Japanese food is incredibly different from western food and lots of Japanese take food with them when they go abroad.
A. So, what’s the most important thing about Japanese food?
B. Its got a fantastic variety of ingredients. The freshness is the most important thing and the presentation, how the food looks on the plate. Japanese food looks like a beautiful picture. It looks just wonderful. So the three things that matter are fresh food, top quality and presentation.
A. Is there anything you won’t eat in Japan? I hear people talk about raw fish or live fish, whale meat and things like that?
B. I’ve never had live food. There is live food in Japan, like live little fish and live prawns which move around in one’s mouth apparently. But I personally don’t think I could eat live food. So it’s either dead and fresh or its dead and cooked. Then it’s OK.

নিজের দেশের তিনটে খাবারের নাম লেখ দেখি। শুধু নাম লিখলে হবে না, সেগুলি কী দিয়ে তৈরি হয়, কী ভাবে রান্না করতে হয় সেগুলিও লিখে ফেল। আর লেখার মধ্যে এই খাবারগুলি সম্পর্কে কয়েকটি বিশেষণ দিতে ভুলো না।
