Fonts Do Not Display in Netscape Communicator 4.x

Problem
Fonts not display using Netscape Communicator 4.x, but you can see them using Internet Explorer.

Solution
Communicator 6: Dynamic fonts do not display using Netscape Communicator 6. You can view them using Netscape Communicator 4.x.

Communicator 4.x: There are three possible solutions to this problem.

  1. Check the Netscape Preferences to make sure you have dynamic fonts enabled. The default setting enables dynamic fonts, but it is possible to change it.
    • Choose Edit > Preferences.
    • In the list of Categories, under Appearance, select Fonts.
    • Click the following option: "Use document-specified fonts, including Dynamic Fonts."

  2. Make sure you specified the name of the font exactly as it appears in an application menu including the same upper and lower case letters. Font names are not case-sensitive for Internet Explorer, but they are for Netscape.

For example, if the font name is "AdLib BT" in the application menu, then do not type it as "adlib bt" in the HTML code. Also be aware that spaces in font names are important, too. If the font name includes a space, you must use quotation marks around it.

  3. See if your Web server is configured for the PFR MIME type. Your Web server must recognize the PFR MIME type in order to display dynamic fonts using Netscape Communicator.

To add the PFR MIME type, follow the instructions for your type of server.
